Another 8:00 am call time on Day 6 of the 2023 Firefighter Challenge World Championship. Today is dedicated to tandems and relays.
Categories 2 & 3: Relays (Fire Department and Hybrid)
In the Relays category, a team of three (3) to five (5) members can form a team. Depending on the number of team members, each member will complete one or more parts of the course before handing a baton over to another member. The members are in full turnout gear with air pack, but do not wear a face piece. Relay teams compete against teams in the same sub category. Teams are seeded with their first race and then enter an elimination bracket based on their seeding time.
BATTLE OF THE RELAYS:
This special challenge is about having a little impromptu fun at our Season Opener and Regional Events. If the top place teams in the FD and Hybrid Relay events are within 10-seconds of one another, the gauntlet will be thrown and, if in agreement, the two relay teams will return to the course one final time for the Battle of the Relays. Members of the winning team will each receive a special trophy in addition to the medals they already earned for their first-place category finish.

Category 4: Tandems
In the Tandem Category, a two (2) person team may be formed from ANY Firefighter Competitor. Members do not need to be from the same department. Each member completes roughly half the Course, with the handoff coming before or after the Keiser Force Machine Evolution. The members are in full turnout gear, but do not wear a face piece.
For the complete competition coverage, you can watch it on the Firefighter Challenge's Facebook page HERE.
Stay tuned for Day 6, which will feature tandems and relay events!
